Roadmaps Are Memory Systems
A short note on why strong roadmaps preserve context as much as they prioritize future work.
Roadmaps are usually described as prioritization tools. They are that, but they also act as memory systems.
When teams lose context, priorities start to look arbitrary. Earlier tradeoffs disappear, initiatives get re-litigated, and the same debates return with slightly different language.
A good roadmap preserves why a decision was made, what assumptions mattered at the time, and what would need to change for the decision to be revisited.
